Los Angeles Teeth Straightening Options

Teeth Straightening Options

Without a doubt, straight, beautiful teeth are on everyone’s dental wish list. But what if, like most people, you weren’t lucky enough to be born with a predisposition toward perfect teeth? You may need a little extra help to achieve that gorgeous smile you’ve always wanted. In the past, it seemed like there was only one way to straighten teeth: Orthodontics. And, inevitably, orthodontics meant outfitting your teeth with uncomfortable metal hardware that could take months or even years to gets your smile into tip-top shape. Fortunately, there are now many different options for straightening teeth that don’t involve metal at all – and some, like instant orthodontics veneers, can be complete in just one or two visits to the dentist’s office! Two of the most popular teeth straightening options on the market right now are porcelain veneers for crooked teeth, and Invisalign.

Porcelain veneers, which are sometimes referred to as instant braces, offer an excellent solution for anyone who has a relatively healthy smile with just a few minor cosmetic flaws. For example, if your teeth and gums are in good shape and your bite is already aligned, but you suffer from discoloration, minor chipping, or slight crookedness, you may be an ideal candidate for instant orthodontics. Here’s how the process works: Your dentist begins by shaping a customized porcelain veneer to each tooth, and then bonding it to the surface of the tooth with a durable polymer resin. Essentially, the porcelain overlay – which can be as thin as a contact lens yet becomes extremely strong when affixed to the tooth – acts as a replacement for your natural tooth enamel. Your new teeth look and feel exactly like natural teeth, only better, and the entire process takes only one or two appointments to go from start to finish.

However, since they don’t actually move the teeth, porcelain veneers are not for everybody. Some patients will require more extensive correction to their bite than instant braces can provide. For those patients, Invisalign may be the right choice. Invisalign consists of a series of clear plastic aligners that move and straighten your teeth like traditional metal braces, but without the embarrassment or discomfort associated with ordinary orthodontics. Unlike normal braces, Invisalign can be removed at mealtimes in order to brush and floss the teeth, making regular dental upkeep a snap. Since the aligners are clear, they are virtually undetectable when worn, making them an excellent choice for self-conscious teenagers or adults who feel they have “outgrown” regular braces. If you’d like to find out whether instant orthodontics veneers or Invisalign may be right for you, contact a dentist who specializes in non-traditional teeth straightening options today.
