Los Angeles Invisalign

What is Invisalign?

If you have crooked, gapped or otherwise imperfect teeth, you may think there is only one solution to help you achieve a gorgeous smile: Braces. While it’s true that metal braces are a time-tested method of straightening teeth, there are many drawbacks to such traditional methods of orthodontics that may give you pause. For example:
  • Braces can make it difficult to maintain good oral hygiene, particularly when it comes to flossing between the teeth.
  • Braces require regular trips to the orthodontist’s office for checkups and adjustments, a fact which can be both costly and time-consuming.
  • Braces can be rather unsightly or even embarrassing, particularly for adults.
If any of these factors are keeping you from the smile you’ve always dreamed about, there is another solution to consider: Invisalign. What is Invisalign? Essentially, it is a way to straighten your teeth without anyone knowing! Invisalign allows you to wear clear braces that are virtually invisible, and the apparatus can even be removed at night or before meals in order to prevent food particles from becoming lodged between teeth.

In addition to comfort and aesthetics, there are many other advantages of Invisalign to consider, such as the reduced amount of time you’ll spend in the dentist’s office. It’s true: Since Invisalign doesn’t require manual adjustment by an orthodontic specialist, you’ll only have to stop by the office every six weeks or so for periodic progress reports. Think of all the time and money you’ll save! Here’s how the process works: Your dentist will begin by taking a series of photographs of your teeth in order to create a personalized virtual treatment plan and a series of custom-made aligners specifically for you. These aligners, designed to move your teeth incrementally by putting pressure on different areas of the mouth, are made of clear plastic and will be more or less undetectable when in place. Every two weeks or so, you’ll be required to swap out one set of aligners for a different set, until your treatment plan is complete. That’s it! No metal brackets or wires, no irritation, and no conspicuous oral hardware in sight.

Since every patient has different needs and desires, it’s impossible to say exactly how long it will take for your Invisalign regimen to be complete, or how much it will cost, without the input of a qualified dental professional. However, when it comes to both cost and timeline, you can expect Invisalign to be comparable to traditional orthodontics. For more information on Invisalign vs. braces and to find out which one will work better for you, contact a cosmetic dentist, such as Dr. Eddied Siman of Millennium Dental in Los Angeles, California.
