What to do for TMJ Pain
If you suffer from TMJ pain the first thing you should do is to see a dentist that specializes in TMJ. This process may take some time but the ultimate goal is to find the cause of your TMJ and correct it so that you will no longer need to deal with this condition or the pain that is a result of it. In the interim however you may need to deal with some TMJ pain, fortunately there are a few things you can do to alleviate that pain.
Ice directly on the site of the pain is perhaps one of the best short term fixes for TMJ pain, not only will it numb the site where there is pain but will help to reduce inflammation and swelling. If the pain persists, over the counter pain medications can help until you can see a dentist but should never be considered a long term solution.
Finally think about anything that you do that could by contributing to the TMJ pain, if you chew gum stop or if you clench your teeth try to learn to relax.
